Description

At the heart of the HydroACT range of pH sensors are the pH electrodes. The pH5 electrolde has a double-junction reference to prevent contamination of the reference from sample components. This design gives the electrode a
longer life compared to ordinary electrodes (up to 3 years). The electrode also has a hemi-shaped glass measuring surface which is more durable than the
traditional bulb-shaped glass. Although they command a higher price in the market place, these sensors are more than cost effective with their longer life and lower maintenance requirements, typically only needing calibration once per two or three months.

pH5 and pH6 are particularly sensitive to applications such as very low ionic strength waters or high temperature applications. pH1 – pH3 are less expensive, more traditional combination electrodes.

Anywhere you have a requirement to measure pH is a suitable application for the pH sensor. The HydroACT pH sensor range is particularly suited to working in sites where reliability and ease of use are most important. One area where the pH sensor excels is in the measurement of pH in very low conductivity or ultra clean water.

Q & A’s

The HydroACT pH sensor is an online analyzer that continuously measures the pH of any aqueous solution in real time. It uses advanced combination glass electrodes with integral reference and automatic temperature compensation to provide accurate, stable pH readings without the need for chemical reagents.

The HydroACT pH sensor range is designed for any application where continuous pH monitoring is required, including potable water treatment, process water, and wastewater. It is particularly well suited for challenging sites such as remote locations, cooling towers, food preparation facilities, paper mills, and very low conductivity or ultra‑clean water applications.

HydroACT pH analyzers offer long sensor life (up to about three years, application dependent), reduced maintenance, and very stable measurement performance. Because the sensors are reagentless and only typically need calibration every two to three months, they help minimize operating costs over the life of the system.

HydroACT 2 is a cost‑effective controller that supports up to two sensors, provides a high‑resolution grayscale display, data logging, and communication options such as 4–20 mA outputs, relays, Modbus, Profibus, and flow switch input. HydroACT 4 adds a high‑resolution color display, more intuitive interface, support for up to four sensors, plus advanced features like texting alarms, remote internet access, automatic cleaning control, and integrated flow control.

Each sensor is optimized for different water types and installation styles. For example, pH1 is suitable for pools and spas, pH2 and pH5 are commonly used in potable and process water, pH3 is suited to wastewater, and pH5/pH6 handle higher temperatures and very low ionic strength waters, with multiple mounting options such as flow cell, at‑line tee, immersion, handrail, and welding stub.

HydroACT pH electrodes typically operate over a 0–14 pH range with a slope of about 95–102%, which is in line with high‑quality laboratory‑grade electrodes. The sensors are designed for fast response, reaching 95% of a pH step change from pH 2 to pH 12 in about 3–5 seconds, depending on model.

Because of their robust design, including double‑junction or solid‑polymer reference technology and durable glass measuring surfaces, HydroACT pH sensors typically only require calibration every two to three months in many applications. Expected sensor life is application dependent, but many models are designed for 12–36 months of service before replacement, provided they are properly maintained.

Yes, the HydroACT platform is a multiparameter analyzer that can also be configured to monitor parameters such as chlorine, ORP, turbidity, UV254, dissolved oxygen, and other water quality measurements, depending on the installed sensors. This allows a single HydroACT controller to act as a central monitoring and control hub for multiple parameters in a treatment process.
